Minecraft in Minecraft (MC 3D Engine)

What could be better than playing Minecraft? Well, playing Minecraft inside of Minecraft of course! This add-on features a simple recreation of Minecraft using a custom 3D engine built with add-ons.

About

3D Engine

This add-on features a custom 3D engine that has been built entirely using only features available in the Minecraft add-ons. To help with performance (and to make things a bit simpler) it is only a wireframe animation, but the system features movement, rotation and the ability to interact with elements in the world.

Minecraft in Minecraft

After the 3D engine was built, I went on my way to recreate a very simple version of Minecraft using it. At the moment you as the player can move around, and chop down trees when you are close enough.

Setting up the game

A new game

The game screen is 207 by 155 blocks. A new screen can be placed by typing "!setup" into the chat. This will spawn in the screen, and provide the needed items for movement. Don't worry about being too high up, if the add-on detects that it is being placed in such a way that part of the screen will be above the build limit, it will automatically shift itself down. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE "Beta APIs" ENABLED IN THE WORLD SETTINGS!

Movement

Movement works by holding the item, with the name of the action that you want to perform. If you do not want to do anything, simply select an empty hotbar slot

Going from left to right, you can:

  1. Rotate Left
  2. Rotate Right
  3. Move Forward
  4. Move Backward
  5. Mine / Chop

Removing the screen

The screen can be removed with the "!destroy" command. However, take note that this command will only work if you have not left the game world, since running "!setup". If the game is closed, reference to that screen is lost and so the command will not work. If you really want to remove something, simply go to the west most, bottom corner of the screen, and run "!setup" again. This will overwrite the blocks in that area, aka the old screen, allowing you to remove it.

Performance

This add-on is quite intense to run, even on a desktop computer, so it may freeze / simply not work on lower end devices.

MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE "Beta APIs" TOGGLE ENABLED IN THE WORLD SETTINGS UNDER "Experimental"!
